Senate Bill Give President of the United States Authority to Turn off Internet in the US
This United States Senate Bill is interesting:
SEC. 18. CYBERSECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY. The President—
(2) may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network;
While it is very easy to think of scenarios why the President of the United States would need this, especially when network infrastructure is under attack. Turning “the tap off” is the best way to do it.
Yet, I am thinking about “the Iranian Scenario.” What happens when dissidents become the “threat to national security?” How does one prevent this power from being abused?
